Since 2005, the European Economic and Trade Office and INFINE team up to organize the Taiwan European Film Festival (TEFF). This activity, which is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to allow new audiences to discover the beauty and diversity of Europe through the eyes of European filmmakers. The 2008 edition will present 10 films from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Spain. Each movie will be shown in DVD format in 15 universities and cultural centers around Taiwan (Free entrance).

For his feature debut, Nimrod Antal made Kontroll, a farcical look at the Budapest subway system, about the crazy ticket inspectors who earn their living there and the hostile citizens they deal with on a daily basis. Bulcsu, a strange young man, is a member of a ticket inspector team. They struggle to check riders' tickets because people resent them. It is about the dramatic but mostly comical relationships between passengers and ticket inspectors everybody is familiar with. But something bad happened these days, there's a dark and mysterious figure who's been pushing unsuspecting riders in front of oncoming trains with predictably grisly results. His superiors begin to suspect Bulcsu when they realize he's been living in the system, spending his nights sleeping on the platforms, and never venturing above ground.

The Fountain For Suzanne

The second full-length film of director Dusan Rapos. It was based on Eleonora Gasparova’s novel of the same title. The director tells a story about the life and troubles of young people living in the city. The teenagers have to face real life, make their first major decisions, and learn that romance sometimes brings disappointment. The original Slovak music composed for the film by Vašo Patejdl contributed greatly to the film’s atmosphere. It helped to make The Fountain for Suzanne a legendary picture of Slovak cinematography at the time.

A team of local TV reporters are following a squad of firemen on night duty. The footage is completely live and their task is to make a show on the life of these professionals who work tirelessly while we are sleeping. The first job of the night is to rescue an old lady who is trapped inside her apartment but the routine rescue soon takes a sinister turn. Something evil is spreading throughout the building. Trapped inside, the firemen and the TV crew have to confront an unknown and lethal horror.
